AMETEK Switch is a designer and manufacturer of high quality DC contactors and solenoids for a wide range of applications. AMETEK purchased the solenoid and contactor product lines from Prestolite Electric in August 2000. Our DC contactors and specific solenoid product families have been UL approved.
DC contactors are used in forklifts, electric vehicles, luxury boats, telecommunication systems, welding, uninterruptible power supplies, ground power generation, and any other application that has the need for a dependable source of power. DC contactors range in current from 100 to 2,000 amps and can handle up to 500 volts. Our contactors operate in a variety of environments and have been designed for open or enclosed construction. In addition, we have a wide variety of existing field proven designs that can be used to meet your size and weight requirements. Our MagnalatchTM family of patented protected designs (100 through 2,000 amps) offers an economical option for those applications that do not require a significant amount of contactor switching.
Solenoids are used in forklifts, automotive, electric vehicles, agricultural, golf cars and any other application that requires dependability and economy. Solenoids are available in metal and plastic case housings. Metal case solenoids range from 6 to 36 DC volts and can operate in intermittent or continuous duty settings. The metal case solenoid is a rugged design that can handle a high inrush of current using copper or silver fixed contacts in conjunction with a moving contact disk design. Plastic case solenoids range from 12 to 48 DC volts and can operate in intermittent or continuous duty settings. Plastic case solenoids are IP67 compliant and are a more economic alternative to the metal case design. AMETEK offers over 70 years of solenoid design and product enhancements that can handle a wide range of customer needs and specifications.
